On 30 November, RICS Portugal held a well attended CPD session regarding Valuer Registration Scheme, at ISEG.

Carlos Leiria Pinto, FRICS conducted the session, highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability in today’s markets.

Jory Buhay, Director of Regulation RICS Europe, gave a short overview about the scheme. Currently the scheme is compulsory in the United Kingdom where over 10,000 members have registered. In Continental Europe, however, the scheme is voluntary although there is a clear will both from RICS and the market to eventually make it compulsory. After Europe, the scheme will be launched in Asia in the first quarter of 2012 and in Americas in the last quarter of the same year. This will make RICS the only Institution to monitor its members in valuation throughout the world, presenting very clear advantages to clients and, subsequently, to members.

Jose Covas MRICS, Chairman of the Valuation Professional Group RICS Portugal and Director of Worx Valuation and Consultancy, updated attendants on the efforts that RICS Portugal has made so far to explain the scheme to regulators and their feedback.
