RICS has a series of discounts in the membership fee for members in a variety of situations. In some cases they must be requested annually (like unemployment or maternity) and in others, once requested, our administrative services will write you to remind you of the renewal.

How do I request a concession?

You may request discounts throughout the year (when your circumstances change) using the attached form.

What is the deadline?

Applications will be not accepted after January 31.

Who do I contact?

What discounts are there?

1. Non practising (including Sunday directors). It gives right to a discount of 50%. You should read, understand and choose from among the four possibilities offered.

2. Part-time work. 50% discount. It must be renewed annually. You need to read, understand and sign section 2 "Part-time Concessions". As evidence you must either provide a letter from your employer (on stamped paper) or if self employed, a letter from your accountant testifying the number of hours worked.

3 Unemployment. 50% discount. It must be renewed annually. You must attach proof (such as letter of dismissal, registration for unemployment or similar).

4 Academic. 50% Discount. For members  who derive 90% of his salary from higher education

5 Maternity or adoption. Reduction of 100%. It must be requested yearly. You must provide a medical letter testifying about the pregnancy, or if adoption confirmation from the competent adoption agency (for adoption requests received after July 2012, the grant will be applied the following year)

6 Caring for the family. 90% Discount. It must be renewed annually for a maximum period of 5 years. Members may not perform paid work in that period.

7 Retired/no longer working. 90% Discount. You must provide evidence (accountant, etc).

8 Ill health. 90% Discount. You must provide evidence (medical certificate, etc).

9. Member of another institution that RICS has an agreement with. Discounts vary, please check the list in p.9 of the leaflet attached

Main points to consider

• Rules of conduct continue to apply to all members, including continuous professional development.
• You may (as in the case of not practicing or retired) no longer appear in various lists of members (such as Find a member or Find a Surveyor)
• Members working for regulated firms must consider about the impact for these.
• In some cases members may work without remuneration.
• RICS reserves the right to require additional evidence.
